Serviced Apartment Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q:        Can I continue to receive my superannuation?

A:        Yes, you are living in an apartment so you continue to qualify for the living alone allowance unless you are assessed as needing rest home level of care (further information is available)

Q:        Can I change the level of services I receive?

A:        Yes, you can elect to add or remove additional services

Q:        Can I have a pet?

A:        Unfortunately not in the apartment block

Q:        Do I keep my own doctor?

A:        Yes

Q:        What if I can no longer afford the weekly fees?

A:        Your assisted living weekly fee is less than the NZ superannuation rate for a single person.  You will sign a tenancy agreement and be subject to the rights and responsibilities contained within the agreement. The apartment is subject to a ‘Service Fee’ and is unavailable as a rental without the accompanying service.

Q:        If I am unable to look after myself and need rest home level of care, can I stay in the Apartment to receive this?

A:        No, the apartments are not certified to provide rest home care; however when a bed becomes available within Waihi Lodge Care Centre, you are welcome to move into this facility.

Q:        Can I have a payment holiday if I go away for a while?

A:        The rent of the apartment must be paid even if you go away on holiday.

Some of the ‘Service Fee’ must also continue to be paid- for example, the payment for heating and electricity, rates and insurance. A reduction in your service fee will be made for personal laundry and cooked meals up to a maximum of 28 days per year.

Q:        Can I still have my homecare caregivers come into the apartment to assist me with showering and dressing?

A:        Yes you can. At this point in time, Seniorcare does not offer a homecare service.

If in the future Seniorcare Geraldine provides homecare, then you would be expected to receive this service from Seniorcare Geraldine and external providers would not be permitted.

We ask that you direct your homecare provider to sign in at Waihi Lodge before attending to you in your apartment.

Q:        Can I bring in my own electrical items?

A:        Yes. All electrical items must be tested for safety by our provider and tagged as safe on arrival, and every year or two after that. This is at your own cost.
